Summerfest is a music festival that is held in late June-early July on Milwaukee's lakefront. It attracts popular bands, many of whom play on "free" stages throughout the day, meaning that you only have to pay the admission price to the festival (around $12) to see one or all of these bands. There are also nightly concerts in the 20,000-seat Marcus Ampitheater for which you have to purchase separate tickets.
Summerfest has carnival-type rides, many diverse merchants, and lots of activities for children. There is a wide variety of food from many Milwaukee restaurants. Everything from "carnival food" like funnel cakes to great ethic food, such as Thai, Greek, and Italian food, can be found on-site. Summerfest is a great place to hang out with a few friends for a few hours or all day.
